Tax filing and tax subscription in Paraguay

The basic tax subscription keeps you compliant in Paraguay: the yearly IRP filing and RUC upkeep, usually a nil return for residents whose income is entirely foreign-source.

For whom
Residents with foreign income

Once you hold a RUC, the obligations registered on it have to be met, for example a yearly personal income tax (IRP) return and the upkeep of the RUC. Which obligations apply depends on your income and registration; with foreign-only income a return, where due, is often a nil return, but it still has to be filed correctly and on time. Client work you physically perform from Paraguay can count as Paraguayan-source income (IRP/IRE, around 8-10%), so the partner accountant classifies your income before a nil return goes in.

Our basic tax subscription does exactly that, through our Paraguayan accountant. That keeps your RUC and your filings current without you having to track deadlines and forms.

What's included

  • Yearly IRP filing (usually a nil return for foreign-only income)
  • Ongoing upkeep of the RUC with the DNIT
  • Handled by our Paraguayan accountant

Who is this for?

For residents with foreign-only income. If you run an active company in Paraguay, you also need ongoing bookkeeping.

I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW AND MAY NOT GIVE LEGAL ADVICE OR ACCEPT FEES FOR LEGAL ADVICE. I AM NOT ACCREDITED TO REPRESENT YOU IN IMMIGRATION MATTERS.

We work with accredited partners in Paraguay, including our partner lawyer Patricia Cardozo (Corte Suprema de Justicia, Matrícula C.S.J. N° 18.119), who handle the legal side of these matters. Our own role is to coordinate and accompany.

Important note: We coordinate the filing but are not a tax advisory firm; the substantive assessment is done by the Paraguayan accountant. US persons still file US returns (and FBAR/FATCA) on worldwide income regardless of Paraguayan residency.

FAQ

Do I have to file in Paraguay if all my income is foreign-source?
It depends on the obligations registered on your RUC. Income that genuinely arises abroad is outside the IRP in principle, but registered obligations still have to be met, often with a nil return. Our accountant checks before you order whether a return is due in your case, and the tax subscription then handles it.
How is Paraguay tax filing different from the bookkeeping subscription?
The basic tax subscription is enough for foreign-only income. The bookkeeping subscription is only needed if you run an active company in Paraguay (ongoing IRE/IVA bookkeeping).
